Hi Toshko. Tell us a bit more about you.
Hi. Well I am 46 years old and am being sporty active for entire life up to now. I grew up in a circus family traveling around the world. I was a juggler with balls and so on in there. At some point I got interested in martial arts after seeing one Japanese movie called Cobra and watching some movies with Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee. However, practicing them was forbidden in my country unless you are involved in some kind of government agency, so I started with wrestling at first and was pretty good there becoming city regional champion for kids. Then at some point in 1987 got involved in defense assistance organization to our law enforcement agency here cause this was how they pick future agents back then while you are still a teenager at school. So this was the time when I started Karate and it became my first love and of course my life.

What style of Karate it was?
It was Yo shi mon cause this was the only style they taught in law enforcement here. Then in 1989 when democracy came here we started to participate in Karate do competitions under their rules, however for me a fight is a fight no matter of the style of the martial art you are practicing. So I become national competitor winning the first Champion of the Champions competition here in 1991 and the same year I got my Shodan as well.
When you got interested and started Kyokushinkai?
Could be said since the beginning of my Karate journey in 1987. In my view we shouldn’t separate styles of Karate cause Karate is Karate no matter what. Anyway, back to the question, in the beginning a read everything I could get my hands on about Sosai Masutatsu Oyama and Kyokushinkai Karate. Was inspired especially from that part where was explained how he was training when inventing Kyokushinkai Karate in the mountain. So I implemented everything I learned from him in my training and the results were presented. Was young but fought with men way older than me and was winning against them, which proofed that I was on the right path. Also, by that time got the first world Kyokushinkai Karate tournament from 1975 on tape and was inspired from some of the fighters like Royama for example.
Tell us more about your Karate training during the years?
In the past we trained a lot like 3-4 hours per day every day. Currently it’s not so much but more likely 1-2 hours per day simply because of my current lifestyle, work and so on. However, Karate is always in my mind simply because it is my life.
You are also doing some kind of weightlifting, right?
Yes, I have weight training maybe around an hour per day almost every day. When done properly it helps a lot in our Karate giving us more power and explosiveness.
Did Karate help in your life outside training?
Yes of course. It was a part of my law enforcement life back when I was in our special squad. It is a part of my life in general giving me strength and determination to succeed. At some point of my life I was taking a part in payed fights around Europa and Karate played its role in holding me whole and be able to win.

Recently you are with International Karate Alliance KyokushinRyu, can you tell us why you switched to it?
Last year I become Bulgarian country director and brach chief of International Karate Alliance KyokushinRyu. Sensei Ilmiy Chelebiev invited me and I accepted simply because IKAK is like no other of Kyokushin organizations and is working towards to get Kyokushinkai Karate back where it belongs. We are open to everyone from Karate world no matter of the style he is practicing and that’s what I really like. Our Kancho Peter Chong is one of the first students of Sosai Masutatsu Oyama and he is leading us through the real way of Kyokushinkai Karate like Sosai used to.
What are your plans for the future?
I plan to expand IKAK even more and spread the real Kyokushinkai Karate spirit among everyone who is interested. Also will continue training and improving myself cause the sky is the limit meaning there is always a place for improvement. Osu!
